Reference field shows '(empty)' value even though a valid record is referenced.Issue For a reference field with a populated value (record sys_id is present when viewing XML of the record), the display value of the referenced record shows up on the form / list as '(empty)'. Release All Resolution Check the [sys_dictionary] records for the referenced table and make sure one of them has the 'Display' field set to True. If none of the [sys_dictionary] entries for a given table have 'Display' = True, no display value is populated when records on that table are referenced.
