Devops Change Velocity: GitHub Actions inbound events fail with "Pipeline execution details cannot be retrieved"Issue <!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Inbound events generated by a GitHub Actions workflow move to the Error state, and no change request is created for the workflow run. Workflows in other repositories on the same tool continue to process normally. The Processing details field on the errored event reports only that pipeline execution details could not be retrieved, and names no reason. Symptoms<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Records in DevOps Inbound Events are in the Error state for one workflow, while events from other workflows reach Processed.Processing details on the errored event reads: Pipeline execution details cannot be retrieved. For more information, select "Show error logs".Selecting Show error logs on the errored event displays: Duplicate job names is not supported for GitHub Actions. No change request is created for the affected workflow run.The workflow run itself succeeds in GitHub. The failure is limited to the data arriving on the instance. Facts<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Why does Processing details not show the reason? Processing details carries a general notice for any run whose details could not be assembled. The specific reason is written to the DevOps log and is related to the inbound event record. Show error logs on the event opens exactly that set of log entries. Which workflows are most likely to hit this? Workflows that generate several jobs from one definition, such as a matrix strategy or a reusable workflow, because the generated jobs inherit a single display name unless the definition varies it. Do events already in Error reprocess after the workflow is corrected? No. Correcting the workflow stops new failures. Errored events are retried automatically for a limited number of attempts, and events that have passed that limit remain in Error and do not produce change requests retroactively. Job name is the key the integration uses to reconstruct the relationships between jobs in a run and determine which job preceded which. When a display name appears more than once in the same run, that relationship cannot be resolved to a single job. The integration stops processing the event rather than associate the data with the wrong job, the event is marked Error, and no change request is produced for the run. The requirement is stated in the product documentation, under Workflows in the GitHub repository: "A display name must be given for every job and must be unique for every job in the workflow. The job name must match with the stage name in the custom action." Confirm that the reason reads Duplicate job names is not supported for GitHub Actions.Open a recent run of the affected workflow in GitHub Actions and review its list of jobs for any display name that appears more than once. Jobs generated from a matrix strategy or a reusable workflow are the most common source, since one definition produces several jobs.Edit the workflow so that every job in the run carries a distinct display name. Where jobs are generated from a matrix, include the varying value in the name so each generated job resolves to its own.Trigger the workflow again. Confirm that the new inbound event reaches the Processed state and that the change request is created for the run. Events that were already in the Error state before the correction do not reprocess once they have passed the automatic retry limit.
