AI Search Assist widget on a Record Producer does not load for unauthenticated (public/guest) usersIssue <!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } On a Record Producer accessed by an unauthenticated (guest) user, a field configured to display the AI Search Assist widget (e.g., a "describe your issue" field) does not render the widget at all. No network call to the AI Search Assist API endpoint is made when typing in the field — the widget simply never loads for public users, while it works as expected for authenticated users. When a variable type is set to Custom, the Permissions tab (where the Read role / user criteria for guest access is configured) is hidden in the form UI, even though the underlying permission fields still exist on the record. If that variable was never explicitly granted public/guest read access — which is easy to miss since the Custom type hides the tab where you'd normally set it — the widget fails silently for unauthenticated users: the platform doesn't render it at all, so no API call is ever attempted. This behavior is tracked under PRB2012610. That PRB was closed as "Working as Expected" Resolution<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } On the affected variable, temporarily change the Type from Custom to Single Line Text (or another type that exposes the Permissions tab).Go to the Permissions tab and set the Read role to allow public access — either grant the public role or configure User Criteria that includes guest users, per your instance's security model.Switch the variable Type back to Custom and re-select the AI Search Assist widget/macro.Save. The Permissions tab will be hidden again (as expected for Custom type), but the guest read access you set in step 2 is retained on the underlying record. After this change, the widget should render for unauthenticated users and the AI Search Assist API call should fire when text is entered. Fixing the widget's visibility is not always sufficient on its own. If the AI Search Assist API call now fires but returns a 403/Forbidden, check whether the target search/AISA endpoint (sys_ws_operation) itself is configured to require authentication. If so, the endpoint will reject calls from guest sessions even though the widget is now loading correctly. Before removing the auth requirement on the endpoint, evaluate the security implications for your instance — this exposes that endpoint to unauthenticated callers. Confirm what data the AI Search Assist configuration can surface (knowledge sources, catalog items, etc.) and ensure nothing sensitive is reachable through it before making this change in a production environment.
