Inbound Emails Not Generating Incident Tickets Despite Incident Number in Email LogsIssue <!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Users are reporting that inbound emails are not generating incident records. According to the user, the emails are successfully arriving in the instance and are being processed by the applicable inbound actions. However, the corresponding incident records are not being committed to the Incident table, even though an incident number is generated during processing. The behavior affects multiple inbound actions. Incident numbers appear to be generated before the corresponding incident record is successfully inserted into the ServiceNow database. After processing completes, the incident numbers are no longer associated with visible records in the Incident table. Confirm that the inbound email meets appropriate email type and the conditional logic configured in the inbound action. 2. A data policy update enforced the a specific field as mandatory, but the inbound actions processing emails did not populate this field, resulting in failed record commits. 3. The out-of-the-box 'Create Incident' inbound action was disabled and modified, potentially contributing to the failure of incident creation for certain emails. 4. Users sending emails to the instance do not exist as users in the instance. Therefore, inbound email actions should not process requests from invalid or non-existent users. Review and revert the recently created Data Policy: Identify whether a recently implemented or modified Data Policy is making a field mandatory during incident creation. A Data Policy that introduces a new mandatory field can cause a Data Policy Exception when the required field is not populated during the inbound transaction. To learn more about Data Policies and how to create and configure them, please refer to the following documentation: https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/platform-administration/c_DataPolicy.html https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/platform-administration/t_CreateADataPolicy.html 2. Verify the inbound action configuration If the customer does not want to modify or revert the Data Policy, verify that the custom inbound actions are correctly populating all required fields. Review the inbound action scripts and configurations to ensure that any fields made mandatory by the Data Policy are properly populated before the incident record is inserted. 3. Monitor incident creation after the change After reverting or addressing the Data Policy requirement, monitor the system and inbound transactions to confirm that incident records are being successfully committed to the Incident table and that the issue no longer occurs.
