Event Management - Slow processing of events with long message_key fields.Issue <!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Event Management events with long message_key fields are stuck in the 'Ready' state or processing slowly. When the column exceeds the limit, the database stores string fields that are >255 characters in length separately from the main table in MEDIUMTEXT format and it can only build a prefix index (an index on the first N characters of the value). Prefix indexes are not true equality lookups - if many message_key values share the same opening characters, the database still has to read and filter many rows to find an exact match. RaptorDB does not share this limitation. The root cause involves message keys from the event source exceeding MariaDB's indexable length limit (767 bytes or ~255 characters for UTF-8), resulting in prefix indexes instead of true equality lookups causing AlertRecordLocator.alertQuery taking 7-8x longer than typical SELECT statements from the same method. This caused significant performance degradation during event processing, as noted in the analysis of the Slow Query with hash "-618,745,729".2. The affected Events with message keys sharing a common prefix up to approximately character 281, forcing the database to read both the main table and external MEDIUMTEXT storage, leading to prolonged query execution times. Ensure Event Management configuration preferences are optimally configured for large-scale environments:- `evt_mgmt.event_processor_job_count` should be set to "4" jobs per node.- `evt_mgmt.event_processor_enable_multi_node` should be set to "true".- `evt_mgmt.events_processing_all_shards` should be set to "true" if processing older shards is required.2. If the issue persists, consider restructuring the message_key for the affected event source to ensure it is shorter than the indexable length or places distinguishing information earlier in the key.3. Review Business Rules, Workflows, and Flows operating on Alert and Incident tables to ensure they do not interfere with Event/Alert processing, as per KB0823973.4. Consider upgrading to RaptorDB to minimize index limitations.
