The failure is specific to one user account; the same Discovery succeeds when run under a different, more privileged user. The target MID Server is confirmed to be up and healthy and is returned as a candidate by the MID Server selector. The MID Server's ECC queue is empty when the scan fails, ruling out queue congestion as the cause. Access Analyzer may report a "pass" for the discovery_status table for the affected user, yet attempting to create a record in that table in debug mode still returns an ACL error. Adding or removing the discovery_admin role from the affected user does not resolve the issue on its own. Component: MID Server selection logic used by Quick Discovery (Discovery.discoveryFromIP). The MID Server selection algorithm itself does not evaluate the requesting user's roles or ACLs; all eligible MID Servers are still returned as candidates. The failure occurs specifically when the platform attempts to insert the discovery_status and ecc_queue records required to launch the discovery job. This role blocks all write, create, and delete operations platform-wide, regardless of any other role or ACL the account holds. This prevented the account from creating the discovery_status and ecc_queue records that Discovery.discoveryFromIP must insert to launch Quick Discovery, resulting in the "unable to find a proper mid server" error, even though the target MID Server was healthy and otherwise capable of covering the requested IP range. Resolution<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Confirm the following two role conditions are both met on the affected user account, then re-test Quick Discovery against the target IP using the same MID Server: Step 1 — The user must have the discovery_admin role. This role governs MID Server visibility and selection for Discovery. Without it, the account has no eligible MID Server to select from. Step 2 — The User must NOT have the snc_read_only role. This role blocks all write/create/delete operations platform-wide, regardless of any other role held. Even with discovery_admin assigned, snc_read_only will still prevent the account from creating the discovery_status and ecc_queue records that Discovery.discoveryFromIP must insert to launch Quick Discovery. Both conditions must hold simultaneously; having discovery_admin alone is not sufficient if snc_read_only is also present on the account. This was verified by temporarily removing the snc_read_only role, successfully running the Discovery, and then reverting the change to confirm the error was reproduced again as expected.
