On this table an empty "Catalog item" field does not mean a script is unattached — there are four valid reasons a shipped script leaves it blank. One note on the list view: the Application column shows the scope (Global for all eight). Package is the field that shows ownership, and it is a named plugin on every record. Adding Package and the four "Applies on…" checkbox columns will explain most of what currently looks unscoped.Group 1 — Does not run on catalog items (1)Disable carrier until device available (Service Catalog core applications):- "Applies on a Catalog Item view" is unchecked and "Applies on Catalog Tasks" is checked — it runs only on the Catalog Task form and reads the sc_task record directly. Scoped by form type, not by item.Group 2 — Attached to a variable, not an item (4)PrePopulate values based on ownership gp, Department or Group, Populate Manager and Name, Set Default File Path:- Each has its Variable name populated with a direct variable ID (the IO: values) and fires on a change to that variable wherever it appears. Leaving the item blank is deliberate: it keeps the script working if the variable is later moved into a variable set or reused elsewhere. Parent items: [insert from item_option_new lookups].Group 3 — Item resolved at runtime (1)Template mode overrides controller (Service Catalog Template), using the internal sysparm_template_canedit variabl:- It applies to whichever record producer the wizard is running in template mode, so the item is supplied at runtime — matching the behaviour your team observed. This record is protected and cannot be deactivated without unprotecting it.Group 4 — Scoped only by form type (2)Show Options on Request Type (onLoad) and Avoid duplicate article ownership groups (onSubmit), both supporting the knowledge ownership group request for:- Neither is an onChange script, so neither uses the Variable name field — that field is only read by onChange scripts. This also answers your question on blank Variable names generally: your Variable name = NULL filter returns exactly three records, all onLoad or onSubmit, and every onChange script in the set is correctly populated. No misconfigured scripts. Its not advisable to deactivate any of the ootb catalog client scripts as it will impact the regular processing of the catalog tasks or items.
