Virtual Agent Enhanced Chat: Language Detection Auto-Switches on Initial UtteranceIssue <!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } In a Virtual Agent enhanced-chat session, when the Language Detection feature is enabled, the conversation language switches automatically to whatever language is detected in the first message. No confirmation prompt appears. The switch is silent and immediate. This behavior can surprise users who type an opening message that is detected as a different language than they intended, for example, a product name or application name that originates from a foreign language. The switch does not repeat: detection runs exactly once per conversation, at the initial utterance only. It does not re-evaluate language on subsequent messages and does not correct itself if later messages establish a different language. The two chat surfaces implement detection differently: - Enhanced chat — auto-switches the active conversation language to the detected language with no user confirmation, as documented for this surface.- Standard chat / NLU mode — presents a confirmation prompt and waits for the user's response before switching. The detection window is the first message of the conversation. Because borrowing of product names, application names, and technical terms across languages is common in real-world user input, a single such token can be sufficient to shift the detection result and trigger an auto-switch. For more detail on how each surface handles language detection, see: Enhanced chat behavior: Dynamic language detection and translation — Enhanced chatStandard chat / NLU behavior: Dynamic language detection and translation — Standard chat and NLU Resolution<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } If the automatic language switch on the initial utterance is undesired, the Language Detection toggle can be disabled: 1. Navigate to Conversational Interfaces > Virtual Agent Settings2. Locate the Multi-language support card3. Disable the Language Detection toggle4. Save the settings.
