How to Download and Upload SAM Software Content Libraries on a Self-Hosted Instance<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Issue Customers on self-hosted instances need to manually obtain and upload SAM software content libraries because the instance cannot connect directly to the ServiceNow content portal. Symptoms SAM content libraries are not automatically updated on self-hosted instances. The instance does not have direct access to itam.service-now.com or the content delivery infrastructure. The SAM - Apply latest content changes scheduled job does not pull content because outbound access to the content portal is blocked.Users are uncertain how to obtain and upload content library files manually. Cause Self-hosted ServiceNow instances operate in environments where direct outbound internet access to itam.service-now.com is restricted or blocked. Unlike cloud-hosted instances that receive SAM content updates automatically, self-hosted deployments require manual download and upload of software content library ZIP files. Access to the content portal requires valid credentials, which must be requested via a Support case if not already provisioned (see KB0862581). Resolution On an internet-enabled device, navigate to https://itam.service-now.com/software_asset_content and log in with your content portal credentials.Download the content library ZIP file that matches your instance release version.Transfer the downloaded ZIP file to a location accessible to your instance or to your instance administration team.In your ServiceNow instance, navigate to Software Asset Management > Administration > Manage Software Library.Upload the ZIP file using the Manage Software Library interface.Allow the import to process and verify that content has been applied.
