The Linux Server pattern never touches this field. The exact part where this happens is in this Linux, Unix Classification (discovery_classy_unix) record in the instance: /nav_to.do?uri=discovery_classy_unix.do?sys_id=c27c1ccf0a0a0b1c006149d6a38f3958 The short_description field will always be overwritten in the following code line: current.short_description = output "output" value comes from ECC queue, specifically in the input of the UNIX - Classify probe. To check the value, open the payload of the input classify probe and search for the word "output". It should look like this: <result id="<sys_id>" name="uname -a" order="1" topic="SSHCommand"> <results probe_time="84" result_code="0"> <result> <output>[actual result of uname -a]</output> </result> This is why manually entered values will always be overwritten with the output of the uname -a command.
