This is not caused by an access or permissions issue. - Multiple Windows MID Servers hosted on the same hypervisor/VM pool can be affected at the same time. When the MID Server (or java.exe -version) starts on a VM configured with an Ice Lake CPU, the JVM hits a fatal internal error in its JIT compiler code-buffer handling (codeBuffer.cpp) and crashes before the MID Server process can fully initialize. Windows then surfaces this as service-specific error code 1. Because the crash occurs at the JVM level, standard service repair steps — including a full service delete and reinstall — do not resolve the issue. Resolution<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } On each affected host, with VM administrative access:1. Change the CPU type on the VM from Ice Lake to Cascade Lake (requires a VM power-off/edit in vSphere or the relevant hypervisor).2. Stop the MID Server service on the host.3. Go to the MID Server's home folder and navigate to the Security subfolder.4. Back up the keystore file, then delete it.5. Open config.xml, update the password, and remove the key-pairs-sys-id entry.6. Confirm the MID Server user account is active and not locked.7. Start the service and verify the MID Server comes up in the instance. Apply this to one host first to validate the fix, then check the CPU configuration on the remaining affected hosts and apply the same change as needed.
