Cause This is expected behavior. List sorting uses a field's stored value, not its display label. For choice fields, the stored value is the value behind each option; for reference fields, it is the reference itself. When the label and stored value differ, the sorted order won't match the visible labels. Resolution There is no out-of-the-box setting to sort a native list column by its display label. In order to have choice fields sort by display label, make sure the value's represent the display label accurately.
