Edge Encryption mass decryption job fails with "Unexpected response code from ServiceNow server: 400" during Edge to Field Encryption Enterprise migrationIssue <!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } When migrating encrypted fields from Edge Encryption to Field Encryption Enterprise (FEE) by running mass decryption jobs, the jobs fail and the encrypted data is not decrypted. The Edge Encryption proxy logs report a 400 Bad Request response returned by the instance, and some decryption job chunks may remain stuck in the Error state. As a result, the target field has an active CLE configuration while the Edge decryption job runs. - The Edge Encryption proxies connect to the instance as the user defined by the edgeencryption.target.username property in edgeencryption.properties. - The CLE configuration references a crypto module governed by the Key Management Framework (KMF) and one or more Module Access Policies. - Multiple Edge Encryption proxies may service a single decryption job; chunks are distributed across the available proxies. Because the migration enables CLE on the target field before decryption, every write the Edge proxy makes back to the instance must encrypt the data with the field's CLE crypto module. The user the Edge proxies authenticate as does not have access to the Module Access Policy for that crypto module. The instance rejects the record-update request with 400 Bad Request, and the proxy surfaces this as Unexpected response code from ServiceNow server: 400. The following error pattern appears in the application node logs:*** ERROR *** field: <table>.<field> has CLE configuration, but edge proxy user doesn't have Module Access Policy for the configuration com.glide.rest.domain.ServiceException: field: <table>.<field> has CLE configuration, but edge proxy user doesn't have Module Access Policy for the configuration Resolution<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } 1. Identify the user the Edge Encryption proxies use to connect to the instance. This is the edgeencryption.target.username value in the edgeencryption.properties file on the proxy. 2. Identify the CLE configuration for the field being decrypted. Navigate to the platform encryption configuration (sys_platform_encryption_configuration) and note the crypto module assigned to the target field. 3. Create or update a Module Access Policy for that crypto module that grants the Edge proxy user access. For the migration scenario, a System Access policy with the following is sufficient: - Crypto Module: the module assigned to the target field's CLE configuration - Crypto Spec: the symmetric data encryption spec for that module - Type: System Access - Granular Operation: Symmetric Encryption and Decryption - Active: true Confirm the Edge proxy user is granted access by the policy. 4. Re-run the mass decryption job for the affected field. 5. Confirm the job completes and the Unexpected response code from ServiceNow server: 400 error no longer appears in the proxy or node logs.
