How to present static (non-reference) choices as a single multi-select field in a Service Catalog item?Issue <!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } You need a Service Catalog variable that lets users select multiple values from a fixed, predefined list of static choices (for example: AU, JP, UK and US) and stores all selected values on the request. The common out-of-the-box variable types each fall short of this requirement: Select Box / Multiple Choice — allow only a single selection.Checkbox — supports multi-select, but requires one variable per option rather than a single field. Attempting to lay out individual checkboxes inside a Container may also render inconsistently in the Portal.List Collector — supports multi-select in a single field, but must be bound to a reference table, and the values in question are static (not already held in a table). The Service Catalog does not provide a variable type that renders purely static choices as a single multi-select dropdown. A single-field multi-select control (List Collector) is reference-based by design — it requires a table to source its options from. To use it for static values, those values must first be given a table to live in. Resolution<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Give the static values a reference source, then point a List Collector variable at it. Two fully out-of-the-box options are available. Option A — Dedicated custom table (recommended when the values are reused elsewhere) Create a small custom table (e.g. u_<name>_option) with a single display field such as Name.Create one record per choice value. On the catalog item, add/configure the variable as type List Collector with List table set to your custom table. Leave the reference qualifier open (or scope as needed) so all values are selectable.Users now see a single multi-select field. Selected values are stored on the request item in sc_item_option as references to the custom table and can be resolved to their readable names in workflows, notifications, and reports. Option B — Reuse the OOTB question_choice table (no new table required) Create a dummy Multiple Choice variable (on a throwaway catalog item or in a variable set) and define the desired options on it. Each option is stored as a record in the question_choice table, linked to that variable via its question field.Configure the target variable as type List Collector with: List table = question_choiceReference qualifier = question=<sys_id of the dummy Multiple Choice variable>so that only those choices appear. To add or retire an option later, edit the choices on the dummy Multiple Choice variable — the List Collector reflects the change automatically, with no table or catalog rework. Notes Both options are out-of-the-box configuration and upgrade-safe, and render consistently in Service Portal. For a literal styled single-dropdown UI beyond the List Collector control, a custom Service Portal widget (via a Macro variable) would be required; this is a customization and outside standard configuration support.
