Step 1: Enable authentication on the Scripted REST Resource

Navigate to System Web Services > Scripted Web Services > Scripted REST APIs. Click on the "VA Bot Integration" record. On the "Resources" related list, and open the Bot Integration record. Navigate to the Security tab. Check the "Requires authentication" checkbox. This enables basic authentication for the REST resource.

Uncheck the "Requires ACL authorization" checkbox. Click Update. Step 2: Create a token for authentication verification

In the filter navigator, enter token_verification.list and press Enter. Click New. Complete the Token Verification form: Name: Enter a name for this token (for example, VA_Integration_Token ) Token: Enter a secure password or token string Click Submit. Copy the token value from the Token field by clicking the lock icon next to it—you will need this value later. Step 3: Create a message authentication record

In the filter navigator, enter message_auth.list and press Enter. Click New. Complete the Message Auth form: Name: Enter a name for this authentication method (for example, VA_Message_Auth ) Provider: Enter the provider name (for example, ServiceNow ) Inbound message verification: Select the static token you created in Step 2 Outbound message creation: Select the same static token Click Submit. Step 4: Link the message authentication to the provider application

In the filter navigator, enter sys_cs_provider_application.list and press Enter. Open the VA Bot to Bot Provider Application record. Update the Message auth field to the message authentication record you created in Step 3. If you receive a message indicating you are in a different application scope, click the here link to edit the record in the correct scope.

Click Update. Step 5: Update system properties (optional but recommended)

In the filter navigator, enter sys_properties.list and press Enter. Find and open the va.bot.to.bot.logging_enabled property. Set the Value field to true . Click Update. This enables detailed logging for bot-to-bot communication, which helps with troubleshooting.

Step 6: Test the API endpoint

Once authentication is configured, test the endpoint by sending a REST POST request to https:// .service-now.com/api/sn_va_as_service/bot/integration with:

Authorization: Basic Auth using your admin credentials Headers: Content-Type: application/json token: (the token you created in Step 2) Body: A valid JSON payload containing message and action parameters If the request succeeds, you will receive a JSON response from Virtual Agent.
