When Discovery runs, the classifier evaluates the host and writes the class it identifies, overwriting any manual changes made directly on the CI record. Important: Modifying classifiers carries significant risk. Classifiers control how Discovery assigns CI classes across all hosts in scope — an incorrect change could result in large-scale reclassification of CIs in your CMDB, potentially impacting CI relationships, service maps, and any downstream processes that rely on class-specific business rules or workflows. Any classifier change should be thoroughly tested in a sub-production environment before being applied to production, and the full impact on existing CIs should be assessed beforehand.
