Service Graph Connectors: Best practices and general guidelines for the "Run As" user and required roles for Scheduled ImportsSummary<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Service Graph Connectors: The Scheduled Imports used by for Service Graph Connectors offer the option to specify a "Run As" user account to process the import. It is suggested to specify a user account and also ensure the account has the required roles to execute and process an import for a Service Graph Connector data source. Without the required roles to process, the imports may not execute as expected due to lack of necessary privileges. When enabled, CMDB 360 will provide information on what is updating CIs and which attributes, but elsewhere such as in logs or audit history, the modifying source may be listed as "system" if the "Run As" value is empty or may specify a generic account if one user account is used for multiple sources. This can be noted when viewing the "Updated by" and "Created by" attributes. For example, if a particular Service Graph Connector has a "Run As" user account named "SG-ABC-Import-User" and a CI it is permitted to update has unexpected changes, the audit history would reflect the account that made the particular change. If the audit history showed the change in question was done by "system," then it would rule out the "SG-ABC-Import-User" account and thus that particular connector. As an added benefit, the "Run As" user will reflect for changes that occur to records outside the cmdb_ci_* tables which would otherwise not be audited by CMDB 360, such as serial numbers which are records on the cmdb_serial_number table. For properly executing an import and updating the involved target tables, specific roles would need assigned for the user account associated with the scheduled import. For example, Service Graph Connector for ABC should have one "Run As" user account for all its Scheduled Imports and likewise, Service Graph Connector for DEF should also have its own "Run As" user for its Scheduled Imports. They should be easily identifiable as belonging to its own Service Graph Connector and these accounts should not be used for other purposes. Most Service Graph Connectors require assigning the "cmdb_inst_admin" role. This role allows the "Run As" user to access the involved tables during the import and execute the imports as designed. When configuring a Service Graph Connector, please review its product documentation as some connectors may have additional role requirements. Once this role is assigned to the involved user account, the Scheduled Import should be able to execute and process as expected and all subsequent modifications, audit history, and the "Created By" / "Updated By" attributes will reflect as being done by the connector's specified "Run As" user account.
