The ai_user_admin role appears to be enforced on the affected fields, including sys_user.first_name. The behavior is observed on instances that have been upgraded to Yokohama Patch 12 HF1 with the com.glide.identity.identity_type plugin active.NOTE: Before this feature was introduced, the user_admin could manage majority of User fields. Therefore, this feature will only affect them if those ACLs have been customized.
