As a result, when a new version is published, the system adds a new subscription record instead of updating the existing one, leading to multiple entries for the same article in the Subscription widget. Subscriptions are managed at the individual article version (record) level, and each new version of a knowledge article creates a separate subscription entry in the system (stored in sn_actsub_subobject_stream ). The Subscription widget displays these records as-is, without consolidating versions.

If duplicate entries need to be minimised visually, this would require custom logic or UI-level filtering to consolidate article versions, which is not provided out of the box.
