One of these resource categories is End User Computing Devices. This article explains what qualifies as an End User Computing Device, which CMDB tables are associated with this category, and how the 1:4 Subscription Unit ratio applies. What Is an End User Computing Device? An End User Computing Device is any physical or virtual computing device that meets all of the following criteria: 1. It is not classified as another Managed IT Resource Type (such as a Server, PaaS Resource, or Container). 2. It has an ITOM component installed (for example, the Agent Client Collector). 3. It is represented as a configuration item (CI) in a CMDB table managed by an ITOM application. In practice, this category covers user-facing computing devices such as laptops, desktops, and virtual desktops. These devices are distinct from servers, cloud platform services, containers, and other infrastructure components, which fall under separate resource categories. CMDB Table Classification End User Computing Devices are represented in the following CMDB table: CMDB TableDescriptioncmdb_ci_computerPhysical or virtual computing devices not classified as another Managed IT Resource TypeAny derived classesAny CMDB classes derived from the above that are not defined as another Managed IT Resource Type A CI in cmdb_ci_computer (or a derived class) is counted as an End User Computing Device only if it is not already categorized as a Server, PaaS Resource, or Container. For example, a record in cmdb_ci_server — even though cmdb_ci_server extends cmdb_ci_computer in the CMDB hierarchy — is counted under the Server category, not as an End User Computing Device. Subscription Unit Ratio ServiceNow applies a 1:4 ratio to End User Computing Devices. This means that four End User Computing Devices count as one Subscription Unit. This ratio reflects the lower operational and monitoring overhead associated with end-user devices compared to servers or other infrastructure resources. The following table summarizes all ITOM Subscription Unit ratios for reference: Managed IT Resource TypeSU : Managed IT Resource RatioServer1 : 1PaaS Resource1 : 3Container1 : 3Unresolved Monitored Object1 : 1End User Computing Devices1 : 4 Note: When reviewing subscription usage charts, End User Computing Devices may appear with a 4:1 display ratio (four devices to one SU). This is the same 1:4 ratio expressed from the device perspective and confirms that four end-user devices consume one Subscription Unit. How to View ITOM Subscription Usage To review how End User Computing Devices and other resource types are counted against your subscription entitlement: 1. Navigate to All > ITOM License > ITOM Licensing Dashboard. 2. Select the relevant tab for the ITOM product (for example, Visibility). 3. Review the resource usage breakdown by category, including End User Computing Devices. A detailed licensing report can also be generated from All > ITOM License > License Report.
