TLS v1.3 can usually perform the TLS handshake in one round-trip with better cryptography, this ensures less vulnerabilities and increased performance. ServiceNow may enable TLS v1.3, however an instance will still be backwards compatible with TLS v1.2. If TLS v1.3 is enabled, transparency is present. This means that if an application within ServiceNow is unable to establish a TLS v1.3 handshake, the application will fallback to TLS v1.2 instead. It's possible to upgrade TLS1.3 on a per instance basis, in fact it's encouraged to give the customer an opportunity to ensure a seamless transition to TLS v1.2 to TLS v1.3 on their production instance/s. If customers require TLS v1.3 to be upgraded at a cluster level, please raise a CTASK to network engineering requesting this, network engineering will also be able to assist with enabling/disabling TLS versions on an instance basis however if the customer is happy to do so, they can navigate to TLS settings on their instance and adjust, enable and/or disable TLS versions themselves. Note: Some legacy Java clients cause issues when TLS v1.3 is enabled at instance level and the workaround is to have it enabled at cluster level instead of instance level however only certain customers that use legacy Java systems may require this different approach. If this is the case, the TLS version will be updated within the entirety of a customers cluster, what this means is that every instance that is associated with a particular customer will be updated when the change has occurred, not just a single instance. (this is an issue that has a current ETA of Dec 2026 to be fixed) Related Links<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } https://support.servicenow.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0563633 - SSL/TLS encryption on instances
