An OOTB UI Policy on the Category field sets it to read-only if there is no value in the Knowledge base [kb_knowledge_base] field on the form. A field that is configured as mandatory cannot also have a UI Policy that sets is as read-only. This is intentional since it's counterintuitive to simultaneously require and prevent input in a field. The knowledge base field is automatically populated by the getDefaultKB() function in the Dictionary Entry's Default Value configuration. This function only returns a value if there is exactly ONE active Knowledge Base in the instance. In the customer's instance, there were TWO active Knowledge Bases. This is why the knowledge field was not populated, and why the kb_category field was non-functional because it was set as Mandatory at the dictionary level AND read-only by the OOTB UI Policy. Resolution<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } Remove the mandatory requirement in the Dictionary record for the kb_category field on the kb_knowledge table. Then create a UI policy to set mandatory and read-only states in a compatible way. For example: • If kb_knowledge_base is empty, category is set read-only=true (The existing OOTB UI Policy already does this). • If kb_knowledge_base is populated, category is set to mandatory=true, read-only=false (This is the UI Policy you would need to create).
