This means: Windows will first attempt Kerberos authentication.If Kerberos fails—commonly when connecting via IP address instead of hostname—Windows automatically falls back to NTLM. Why Multiple Kerberos Requests Occur Each WMI/PowerShell command executed during the scan may initiate a separate authentication request.It's normal to see a high number of Kerberos requests (for example, 121 per host) because the commands do not explicitly specify the authentication authority; they rely on the default Negotiate behavior. Kerberos Credential Caching Kerberos has a built-in credential cache to reduce repeated authentication requests.The implementation and behavior of this cache can vary depending on the Windows configuration. Refer to Microsoft documentation for details. Performance Considerations and Workarounds 1. You can split discovery jobs into smaller network segments or IP ranges to reduce load per host. The Discovery team can advise on best practices for segmenting IP ranges. 2. Tuning options for better performance include: Adjusting the number of worker threads.Configuring MID Server clusters. 3. Currently, there is no workaround for reducing Kerberos authentication attempts without major changes to the code. Note: Before the Zurich release, ServiceNow only supported Kerberos with WinRM.
