Contract Management Pro — Word (.docx) files that are edited directly within Google Drive may encounter errors during processing or signature operations. Description When Word (.docx) documents are edited in Google Drive using Google Docs, the application modifies the internal XML structure of the file. Consequently, these files deviate from the standard Microsoft Word format.

Because of this change to the internal structure, the system can not process the document correctly during various operations such as:

Sending for signature Syncing signatures Creating document revisions from external storage Updating document data or metadata This issue is specific to .docx files edited in Google Drive and does not occur when the same documents are managed in Microsoft Word (either desktop or online).

Note: Word (.docx) files edited directly in Google Drive using Google Docs may become incompatible with Contract Management Pro causing failures during processing, signature operations, and document updates. To avoid these issues, edit .docx files in Microsoft Word (desktop or online) and then upload it into the system using the create revision option.

Steps to Reproduce

Create a Contract Request using Third-Party Paper and select the MSA contract type. Upload a Word (.docx) document with External Storage set to Google Drive. Proceed until the contract status becomes “Work in Progress.” Open the contract document using the provided Google Docs URL. In Google Docs, make a copy of the file. Add any text or a new line and save the document. Create a new contract revision from External Storage to capture the latest changes made to the document. Perform any document-related action, such as: Compose Email Send for Signature Sync Signatures Any document update or alteration process

9. Observe: The operation fails, and the system is unable to process the document successfully.

Workaround To prevent this issue:

Avoid editing Word files in Google Drive with Google Docs. Download the file, edit it in Microsoft Word, then re-upload if required or work from supported storage locations. This keeps the .docx format intact and maintains compatibility with document processing and signature workflows.
