Once the user has searched for some keyword on a topic page and wants to reset the search, then they can clear the search term and trigger a search with the empty search term - this is an expected use case of this widget 5. Since this search with an empty search term is expected to bring all the content associated with a topic, we replace the empty search term with a "***" wildcard. 6. The "***" wildcard will show up as an entry in the sys_search_event 7.
