Next Experience UI Notification preferences shows notifications are turned on for unsubscribed delivery channelsIssue On your Next Experience login, if you navigate to the top right user icon and click on "preferences", you'll be prompted with a set of buttons and one among them is the "notifications" button and if you click on it, you'll see a dialog which will offer a link to visit the "advanced notifications" page ( https://REPLACE-WITH-YOUR-INSTANCE.service-now.com/now/platform-notifications/platform-notifications ). The advanced notifications page is meant to control the notifications at a granular level as well as enable/disable delivery channels. Whilst the intention is great, the UX can be a bit misleading under the "systems notifications" tab and hence this article is meant to clear the air on the out-of-box (OOB) functionality. Think of delivery channels as a medium through which you'll live to receive notifications/updates. If you have enabled delivery channels, this is how it looks like on the "delivery channels" tab: If you have delivery channels enabled, this is how the UX reflects it under the "system notifications" tab: An example when notification is enabled: An example when notification is disabled and when delivery channels are enabled: This could appear misleading but this article's intention is to clear the air. Under "systems notifications" tab, if a notification is disabled (using the top notification button), then that specific notification will not be sent out regardless of the status of the delivery channels. In the following example of notification being enabled when delivery channels are disabled: In the above case, even though notification is enabled, no notification will be sent out since the user has disabled their delivery channels. So, the ability to send out notifications is still governed by the enablement or disablement of delivery channels under the "delivery channels" tab. If both notifications and delivery channels are enabled, then they appear editable under the "system notifications" tab, as follows: The following table summarises the behaviour: NotificationDelivery channelsNotification outcomeEnabledDisabledDisabledEnabledEnabledEnabledDisabledEnabledDisabledDisabledDisabledDisabled In the case of multiple delivery channels, the notification outcome is dependent on enablement / disablement status of each delivery channel. In other words, if a notification is enabled and one of the delivery channel is enabled, the notification will be sent out to the delivery channel(s) which is/are enabled.
