The user wanted to know if it would be a best practice to use this field, what the intention behind the presence of the field is (why category is a column on item_option_new [where variables are stored] and item_option_new_set [where variable sets are stored], yet is on the form in neither form-view out of box), and generally if there is any risk of the field going away should the user utilize it in their project.Related LinksAfter speaking to the ServiceNow Service Catalog Development team, it was concluded that if any field is not documented (this field is not discussed in documentation for either variables or variable sets as of the Utah release), it is best practice to not utilize it. Development did confirm that this particular field is legacy, and therefore recommended that the user please create their own custom field and use that to organize/categorize variable "ownership" in their organization.
