Why ServiceNow modified the target version on EOL Change RequestIssue ServiceNow sends notifications 90, 60, and 30 days in advance regarding the Platform Upgrade notification message sent on your End of Life Upgrade Program Record. These notifications inform you that with the General Availability (GA) of a new release in every Q1 and Q3, ServiceNow will change the target version on your EOL Upgrade Change to the GA new release. Your End-of-Life Upgrade CHGs will initially target the Current release version as a placeholder. However, when the GA of the new release becomes available in Q1 and Q3, we will modify the target version on your instances to the GA new release. Note:1. A new GA release will be the new target version, but this will not affect the scheduled date you have set for your instances. Therefore, it will only make changes to the target version. 2. As a customer, you have the flexibility to reschedule the upgrade CHG to any date that is 60 days after the GA release. Once we notify you about GA of a new release, you have 60 days to schedule the upgrade. For example, ex. Vancouver N-1 and Xanadu GA, you have 60 days from the date of the GA's new release to reschedule the upgrade. Having said that, customers can reschedule and modify the target version of their changes in the Program Record (CHGxxxxxxxx) until the Deadline that you can also see on the instance dashboard ("Planned Start Date must be before (....deadline). see screenshot If the preferred date is beyond the specified deadline, you will need to submit an extension request form. Customers must fill out and submit this extension form if they cannot meet the upgrade deadline outlined in the message stating "Planned Start Date must be before ...........". If you need an extension for your CHGxxxxxxxx, please reach out to us directly by commenting on the Parent CHG. We will send you the extension request link on your Main Program Record (CHGxxxxxxxx) to fill out and submit for review by our relevant team. Note: Submitting an extension request does not guarantee approval; the decision is made after the relevant team assesses it. Facts We strive to inform our customers of the Target Version modification in advance. We always notify our customers of the upgrade change once we update the target version on your upgrade CHG to a new release. So that if customers are not ready and wish to prevent their instance from upgrading to the GA new release, we provide them the opportunity to retarget the target version to their preferred version (if the version is available), and we ensure that we will NOT update any CHGs where you modify the target version to another family or patch. Remember: We always notify our customers once we update the target version with your upgrade to the new release. To ensure you receive all relevant notifications about your changes, we recommend that you keep your company contacts current. We understand how crucial timely notifications are for our customers, so we always make sure that when upgrades are planned and your instances are retargeted, you will receive prior notifications from ServiceNow. Therefore, we recommend regularly checking that your company contacts are accurate to avoid missing any important updates from ServiceNow related to your changes. GA of New releases are tentatively scheduled to come out around Q1 & Q3 (March and September - dates/timelines are subject to change until they're release), twice a year.EOL program is tentatively scheduled 90 days in advance of the new release (June and December - dates/timelines are subject to change until they're release). ResolutionIn the End of Life Program, we modify the Target Version of these upgraded CHGs to the latest release family to leverage the newest innovations and technology. Additionally, by upgrading customers to the latest family version, they can remain on a supported version for a longer period, requiring only an annual upgrade. However, customers have the opportunity to plan in advance with their upgraded CHGs, whether they choose to upgrade to the newest release or the previous version, and this gives them the ability to retarget the child change requests back to their preferred version or to reschedule the CHG.Related LinksKB0541128: How to self-schedule, modify the target version, and reschedule the CHG.KB0678054: Upgrade FAQ KB1644913: How to Post Comments on Patching and EOL Changes (CHG) to Request Support
