"Loading Configuration Items" and a spinny gif will be displayed in place of the "Filter" section of the form while that loads. Your browser may even display a "Page Unresponsive - You can wait for it to become responsive or exit the page" popup during this time. Analysis of the network traffic using the browser debugging shows a considerable amount of time is taken getting the lists of CI tables/Classes to use in the dropdowns of the Class conditions in the filter. These are xmlhttp.do AJAX requests running sequentially one after the other, calling "PickList" to return all possible choice list values for the sys_class_name field, which is all of the >1000 table names in the CMDB extended table plus their labels. There are several things that contribute to this performance issue: These PickList AJAX requests execute synchronously, not in parallel, so the response from one has to be back at the browser before the next request is sent to the instance.These are duplicate requests. The result from the first request is all we need, as the additional OR conditions will be using exactly the same choice list.If the instance is responding slowly, these requests can take a long time each. Instead of 1-2s, it may be 5-10s.If the particular combination of the below factors mean you have lots of classes involved, the number of requests will also increase. >10 classes have been seen. The specific Classes used in this filter is defined by: The class of the CI who's relationships you are editingThe relationship type currently selected in the "Suggested relationship types" listThe definition of suggested relationships in the cmdb_rel_type_suggest table. Below is an example of a Tomcat application, defaulting to "depends on (parent)" type on first load, and 3 Classes in the filter. The time spent is 2s per request on this internal demo instance, for an overall time of 18s load. If the relationship type selected in the "Suggested relationship types" list is changed, then this has to re-load, and you can see the same issue. 4.5s of the 6s was due to the PickList requests for 2 Classes.
