Why is my instance status 'Nearing end of life', and what actions are needed?Issue The warning message you're seeing," Nearing end of life", is part of a ServiceNow feature designed to provide a helpful notice that a release family is nearing its end of life. While no immediate action is needed, it's a useful prompt to begin planning any necessary upgrades in advance of the EOL timeline. However, the messaging may remain on the dashboard until the instance is upgraded to the next highest version or the newest version. FactsExample: Your Support Entitlement is N-1(Xanadu) for now. With the release of Zurich (or the 'N' version) in Q3 2025, Zurich will be "N", Yokohama will be 'N-1', and Xanadu will be 'N-2'; therefore, Xanadu will be unsupported.ReleaseServiceNow aims to deliver two new release families each year, typically targeting Q1 and Q3 for these updates. The specific go-live dates are usually announced on Now Support (HI) around 60–90 days prior to the expected release, helping customers prepare. Please note that these timelines are provided for general planning purposes and may change at ServiceNow's discretion.ResolutionThe system schedules the upgrades ninety (90) days before the family version becomes unsupported (End-of-Life), which is why you are seeing the notification "Nearing end of life." This means you have the option to schedule an upgrade to a higher family release soon (although not a necessity) or wait for the system to create an end-of-life program on your behalf. ( June and December: Timelines are subject to change.) This notification from ServiceNow serves as a reminder to proactively plan and manage the instance upgrade before your current family version becomes unsupported. This will happen when the latest family release is generally available (GA) in Q1 and Q3 of each year. (Timelines are subject to change) Remember: No immediate action is necessary; however, this notification about a release family nearing its end of life will help our customers prepare for upgrades before the EOL program.
