Most customers plan and manage their upgrades before a family becomes unsupported. However, ServiceNow schedules your instances for upgrade if they remain on an unsupported version past the stated deadline. When ServiceNow schedules your end-of-life instances for upgrade, the initial target is set to the latest available release version at the time of change creation. This normally matches the Patching target for the newest version. Once the newest version is released, your target changes to this version to get you on the latest available version. Why can't ServiceNow schedule the newest version immediately? ServiceNow cannot select a version before it is released. The system sets the initial target to the currently available version at the time of change creation, then updates to the newest version once it becomes available. The target version change does not affect: Changes where you already modified the target version to another family or patchThe planned start date for any scheduled changes You can modify the target version up until two hours before the planned start time.
