With this setting, a number is assigned when a new record form is opened — not when the record is saved. If a user opens a new incident form but does not save it, the assigned number is consumed and a gap appears in the sequence. The record was deleted The record was created and saved, but was subsequently deleted. If a matching record exists, the incident was deleted. To narrow the search, query for incidents created just before and after the missing number to determine the approximate date and time range when the missing incident would have been created, then filter [sys_audit_delete] by that range. Step 2: Check system logs if the incident is recent If the incident was created recently and system logs are still available, search the system logs for the missing incident number to find additional details about when it was created or deleted. Step 3: Prevent future numbering gaps (optional) To prevent numbering gaps, set the system property glide.itil.assign.number.on.insert to true.
