Similar to adding multiple datasets to the same report, certain Widget types can be configured to allow display from multiple Indicators. This capability is specific to Widgets based on a Time Series or a List display. This article will describe the steps used to configure a Widget to allow additional Indicator data sources for an applicable Widget. Procedure The first step is to select or create a new Widget associated to an Indicator in the normal way. For this article and example we will create a new, basic Widget. Thus, we would start by opening a new Performance Widget record (pa_widgets). This Widget should be created similar to the method in which any other Performance Analytics Widget were to be created. However, a few notes specific to these Widgets, for which multiple Indicator sources will be added, should be mentioned: In order to support multiple Indicator sources to display in the Widget, the Type of the Widget must be Time Series or List. Any other type selected does not support additional Indicator Sources and thus the related list to add these additional Indicators will not be displayed on the form. The Workbench type is designed around multiple Indicator sources, but the Indicators are not all rendered on the same chart or graph. The selection of the type will also determine the specific Visualizations that will appear in that list and that can be selected.Since the Widget will ultimately be configured to show multiple Indicator visualizations on the same chart display, the Indicator selected in the Indicator field can be any of the Indicators which should be displayed on the chart. The only difference being that the Indicator selected in this field will be the first label displayed at the bottom of the chart. The Color scheme and/or visualization type should be different that as selected for the additional Indicator sources that will be added to help distinguish the data clearly on the displayed chart. In the specific case if the chart Type is selected to be a Time Series chart and the Visualization is selected as Stacked Column Chart, all additional Widgets will need to be selected as Stacked Column Chart. The value typed in the Label field will determine the label that is associated with the Indicator data populated in the Indicator field of this parent record. Once the initial Widget record has been created and populated as needed to suit the needs for the data it should contain, the Widget record should be Submitted or Saved at least one time. Additional Indicator Sources cannot be added to a Widget until the record has been submitted or saved at least once. Alternatively, if additional Indicator Source data is needed to be added to an existing Widget, this is also possible. However the existing Widget must specifically be of Type Time Series or List. Once the initial Widget has been created or loaded, the following steps can then be used to add additional Indicator Sources to that Widget. Open this previously created Widget for editing. Scroll to the bottom of the record and locate the Related List titled Widget Indicators. Click the New button associated to this Related List. This will open a new Widget Indicator record (pa_widget_indicators), which is a record that links a Widget to a specific indicator. In the Indicator field select the appropriate additional Indicator to add to that same Widget. Fill out the remainder of the fields in the record as needed. It is recommended to use a different color scheme as was used for any other Indicators (including the original Indicator configured in the Widget itself) that is associated to this widget, to ensure each dataset can be easily recognizable in the final displayed chart. In addition, it is common to select a Chart type that is different from the Visualizations as selected for other Indicators on the same Widget. The Order field is used by the system to determine the order in which the label for that Indicator will appear at the bottom of the chart. Once all the fields are populated as needed for this Widget Indicator, click the Submit button to save the record. This will then add the Widget Indicator association record to the Widget Indicator list and cause any data associated to data collected from that Widget to be displayed in the report. This should be repeated for each additional Indicator that should be associated with, and displayed within this Widget. After adding all the necessary indicators to the Widget, the next step is to place the Widget on a new or existing Dashboard for display. Also, it should be ensured all the necessary data associated to the Indicators has been successfully collected or the dashboard will show reduced or no data. Once the Widget has been created, the Widget Indicators created, the Widget added to a Dashboard and the data collected, the Widget should then display a report showing data from multiple Indicators all on the same graphical display. Additional Information The following Docs site URL also describe these steps in adding additional Indicators to an existing Widget of type Indicator or Time Series: Add Widget Indicators It should also be noted that the out-of-box default maximum number of additional Indicators which can be added to a specific and appropriate Widget is seven. However, this number can be adjusted as needed. See the following KB article which details the steps that would be performed to accomplish that task: KB0725634 - Modify the number of additional indicators that can be added to certain performance analytics widgets
