Plugins are software components that add functionality to installed applications on ServiceNow instances. This article describes how to request, activate, and purchase plugins on ServiceNow instances, including production, non-production, and personal developer instances (PDIs). This applies to new plugins, plugins appropriate only for certain deployments, or plugins that can only be activated by ServiceNow personnel.Subscription-based: Associated with a for-fee subscription. Can only be activated after your organization purchases the subscription. Request plugin activation (production instances) On production instances, plugins must be activated by ServiceNow Support. These plugins do not appear in the System Definition > Plugins list. Note: For subscription-based plugins (such as Performance Analytics), see Activate a plugin included in your subscription later in this article. To request plugin activation: Go to Now Support > Automation Store > Service Catalog.Select Activate Plugin.In What is your target instance, enter the instance where you want to activate the plugin.In Which plugin would you like to activate, enter the plugin name.If any of the following apply, select Plugin I'm looking for is not listed: The plugin is not in the list and is not searchable on ServiceNow Store.The system indicates you do not have the required subscription.The system indicates the plugin is already active on the instance. Select the preferred date and time for the plugin activation to begin.(Optional) In Reason/Comments, provide any helpful information, such as a specific activation time outside the default windows.Select Submit. Activate a plugin (non-production instances) Admins can activate some plugins on non-production instances. Some plugins require a purchased subscription before activation. To purchase a subscription, contact your ServiceNow account manager. To activate a plugin on a non-production instance: Go to System Definition > Plugins.Find and select the plugin name.On the System Plugin form, review the plugin details.Select the Activate/Upgrade related link.Review any plugin dependencies: Required dependencies are listed with their activation status. If you continue, the system automatically activates all required plugins.Optional dependencies appear under "Some files will not be loaded because these plugins are inactive." These features are not installed until the listed plugins are installed. (Optional) Select Load demo data to install sample records that illustrate plugin features. This is recommended when first activating a plugin on a development or test instance.Select Activate. Note: You can load demo data after activation by selecting the Load Demo Data Only related link on the System Plugin form. For more information, see Activate a plugin. Activate a plugin included in your subscription For production instances, you can activate plugins included in your subscription through Subscription Management. Log in to the instance as an admin.Go to Subscription Management.Select Subscriptions.Select the related subscription.Under Subscription Applications, select the related product to view the plugins and their status (Active/Inactive).Select the plugin and select Activate/Repair. Confirm plugin activation To confirm a plugin is active and view when it was activated, see How to check if a plugin has been successfully activated in an instance and when it was activated. Purchase a plugin Some features require a separate subscription and are not included in the base ServiceNow platform. To purchase a subscription or find plugin costs, contact your ServiceNow account manager. ServiceNow Support cannot provide information about what subscriptions your company purchased. You can view: Plugins activated on your instancesPlugins available for purchase (see List of plugins) After purchase, your account manager arranges plugin activation on your production and non-production instances, typically within a few days. Troubleshoot plugin activation issues If you see a grayed-out upgrade button or receive a message that an upgrade is unavailable, check the following: Issue Resolution Cannot activate on production instance Request activation through Now Support. See Request plugin activation in this article. Subscription required message Contact your ServiceNow account manager to purchase the subscription. Plugin depends on other plugins Activate the required plugins first. When you activate a plugin with dependencies, the system notifies you and can automatically activate required plugins. Some features unavailable The plugin may have optional features that depend on other plugins. Activate those plugins to enable the features. Activate a plugin on a personal developer instance You can test plugins on your personal developer instance (PDI) before deploying to production. To request a PDI, go to the ServiceNow Developer Site. Note: Some plugins are not available for activation on PDIs. If a plugin is not active by default, you can activate it without requesting or purchasing it. Option 1: Activate from the instance In your PDI, go to System Applications > All Available Applications > All.Find the plugin and activate it. Option 2: Activate from the ServiceNow Developer Site Use this option if the plugin is not available on the All Applications page. Sign in to the ServiceNow Developer Site.In the Instance Management widget (titled "Your Instance"), select Manage > Activate plugin.Locate the plugin to activate.Select Activate.If available, select whether to activate the plugin only or include demo data.
