This can occur on any table, including the Incident and Task tables, when the field's column record has been removed from the instance. When the column record is missing, the instance cannot query the reference field or its related table, so it displays the raw sys_id value stored in the field instead of the resolved reference value. This can occur when a field is accidentally removed from a production instance by committing an update set that contains a deletion of the column record. Resolution<!-- /*NS Branding Styles*/ --> .ns-kb-css-body-editor-container { p { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } span { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, #000000); } h2 { font-size: 24pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h3 { font-size: 18pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } h4 { font-size: 14pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--text-primary, black); } a { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718F); } a:hover { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #024F69); } a:target { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #032D42); } a:visited { font-size: 12pt; color: var(--now-color--link-primary, #00718f); } ul { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } li { font-size: 12pt; font-family: Lato; } img { display: ; max-width: ; width: ; height: ; } } This resolution assumes that a non-production instance (such as a development or test instance) exists with the correct field configuration in place — for example, a clone of the production instance taken before the field was removed. Step 1: Export supporting records from the working instance On the non-production instance that has the correct field configuration, export the following records as XML and import them into the affected production instance: [sys_documentation] record for the affected field[sys_storage_alias] record for the affected field[sys_metadata] records for the affected field Step 2: Capture the sys_dictionary record in an update set The [sys_dictionary] record cannot be exported as XML and imported directly. Use the following approach to capture it in an update set: On the non-production instance, create a new Local Update Set and set it as the current update set.Go to [sys_dictionary] and locate the missing field on the affected table — for example, Assignment Group on the Incident table.Open the field record and rename the Column label by adding a character to the end — for example, change "Assignment Group" to "Assignment Group1".Save the record.Rename the Column label back to the original value — for example, "Assignment Group".Save the record again. This captures the [sys_dictionary] record in the current update set.Complete and export the update set. Step 3: Deploy to production Commit the update set on the test instance first to verify that the field is restored correctly. Then commit on the production instance, or submit a change request if your change management process requires one. Step 4: Verify After committing the update set, go to the affected table and verify that the Assignment Group field (or the affected field) now displays the correct reference value instead of a raw sys_id.
